Chittagong City Corporation has decided to extend city areas in a quick move recently.
In this connection, CCC has constituted a powerful committee aimed at perusing the concerned ministry .
The quick decision for extension of the city area ahead of 8 months of CCC election raises questions .
CCC sources said, to enhance the civic facilities with better education and medicare services in the adjoining areas of the corporation boundary, the decision for extending the area has taken. Unreliable sources said to delay the forthcoming CCC election, City Mayor and the councilors have taken this quick unjustified decision for extension the city area.
Corporation sources said the question of extending the city area was discussed in the 50th general meeting of the CCC held on August 21 as per gazette notification of 1997 . The proposal for extention of the city area was placed before the meeting by councilor Jahar Lal Hazari .
The chair discussed the proposal of the extension and unanimously constituted a 5-members committee on the issue. Panel Mayor Md. Hossain made chief of the 5-members committee, sources said.
Mentionable that the CCC election was held on June 17, 2010 and the tenure of the present Mayor will be expired on July 25 next as per gazette notification and first general meeting of the elected body that held on July 26 , 2010.
