Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation AJM Nasir Uddin on Monday assured city dwellers that water-logging problem would be removed if plans undertaken by the city corporation are properly implemented. “We are not sitting idle. Some good results are coming out as we are
relentlessly working for resolving the problem”, the mayor said while addressing a press conference held at KB Abdus Sattar auditorium in the afternoon.
Outlining the reasons of water-logging in the city, the mayor said the problem has worsened because of climate change, rise of sea level, release of water from Kaptai Hydraulic Dam, tidal surge and heavy downpour in the recent time.
The mayor said the city corporation would soon demolish all structures built along city canals. He also said permanent sluice gates would be built on Moheshkhal at its Saltgula part with the financial assistance of Chittagong Port Authority for quick disposal of rainwater.
Expressing regret for the sufferings of the city residents, Nasir called upon all for not doing politics with the problem for gaining interests.
