Ward Councilor Anjuman Ara Begum and her brother, Faruk Ahmed, are constructing a one-storey building allegedly occupying a pavement and drain in front of Joynab Colony at Dewan Bazar in Chittaogng city.
They have covered the construction site with curtains to evade notice of the onlookers. When contacted, CCC assistant state officer Eklas Uddin told that some people have illegally occupied the land (plot no 1195) owned by the Chittagong City Corporation in Rahamatganj Mouja as per Bangladesh settlement record no. 5 and are erecting a structure, and legal action against the alleged grabbers is under process.
Admitting the facts, Anjuman said,” We’ve legal documents of the land, which belonged to my father. The CCC can’t own it in any way.”
However, she could not show any relevant document. The residents have long been using the place for waste disposal.
But the ward councilor and her men cut down two palm trees and warned the resident not to dispose the waste here.
To dismantle the illegal building on the land, City Corporation Magistrate Nazia Shirin has conducted a drive on September 30, 2014 but facing hindrance from the councilors’ people were forced to return. CCC Executive Magistrate Nazia Shirin told journalists that she visited the place physically.
She got the report of the surveyor and the order of CCC mayor. They will conduct an eviction drive to free the grabbed land as soon as possible.
On October, CCC Esate Department called upon Mohammad Faruk, brother of ward councilor Anjuman Ara Begum, to come up with his legal document in city corporation office but he did not comply with that.
On October 8, CCC surveyors Mahamudul Huq and Abdul Manan submitted their survey report alleging grabbing of the 16 feet long and 9 feet wide CCC land by Ward Councilor Anjuman Ara Begum and her brother Faruk Ahamed.
Then on October 9, CCC Mayor Monjur Alam approved the file to conduct an eviction drive.
