Fearing afresh landslide, authorities of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) asked people living in Debpahar risky hills under Chakbazar Police Station to move to safer places.
Following the directives of CCC Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, employees of the city corporation through loudspeakers asked people who reside in Debpahar risky hills to go to safer places as Chittagong and its adjoining areas have been experiencing heavy rains for the 7th consecutive days.
Life of the people living in port city and its adjacent districts are being hampered badly as the rains reached its extreme last night.
Earlier, the authorities asked the people living in different hillocks under Chawkbazar Police Station to leave their makeshift dwellings as Met office warned of further landslides in Chittagong and its adjoining districts, but most of the people yet to leave their habitations.
Recently, at least 149 people died in landslides at different parts of Chittagong region. In spite of knowing the ensuing dangers, people of low-income group mostly, rickshaw pullers and day labourers, make up their temporary settlements on risky hillocks and start living in those hills.
Executive Engineer of CCC Sudip Basak told this correspondent that following the removing of some earths from these hills , city mayor deployed them in the area to evict the dwellers from the areas. CCC Engineer sources said there are 30-35 tinsheet houses at hillpockets but these dwellers wont agree to leave their dwelling houses . This matter was apprised to the Officer incharge of Chowkbazar thana to evict them forcibly to avoid any incident.
