State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan on Tuesday said closed circuit TV cameras will be installed at different strategic points of the capital to check extortion, especially from the cattle-laden vehicles, ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
“CCTV cameras will be installed at different strategic points, including entrances to the capital, to identify those who will try to collect toll from different vehicles, particularly cattle-laden ones, ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha,” he said.
The junior minister was talking to reporters after attending the launching ceremony of the flood preparedness programme at Brac Centre Inn at Mohakhali in the city.
Asaduzzaman said the law enforcement agencies have already been directed to take special measures to keep the law-and-order situation normal so that people can celebrate the eid peacefully as well as the homebound people can travel safely.
About the al-Qaeda’s announcement to form its Indian branch in South Asia, including Bangladesh, he said the government took the matter seriously. “Field level officers of different intelligence agencies have been working to examine the media reports over the al-Qaeda’s announcement.”
Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri has announced in a videoed message the creation of an Indian branch of his militant group to “raise the flag of jihad” across South Asia, including Bangladesh.
