Mahmud Arif, DU Correspondent :The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) have decided to tighten security across the campus following the recent gruesome murder of blogger Avijit Roy and the incidents of explosions on the campus.The entire area of the university, including its eight entry points and dormitories, will be taken under close circuit cameras. Sources of proctorial team said that close circuit cameras would be set up soon.DU Acting Proctor Prof. Amzad Ali on Sunday told The New Nation that all dormitories and the risky places would be brought under CC camera. He hoped that arson attacks and other violence acts would be reduced once the CC cameras are installed. Alongside the CC cameras, the DU authorities will also use other related technologies for preventing crime and ensuring the safety on the campus. They are planning to use powerful lighting system in the important points of the campus.Prof. Amzad Ali said that light would be set up in different points, especially in front of Udoyon School, Shamsunnahar Hall and Central Shaheed Minar.When contacted, DU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique said that the university authorities have already sat with police officials and sought the help of the Police Stations around the university campus to increase the surveillance activities on the campus and its adjacent areas.
