Cattle smugglers attack BGB men

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have come under attack allegedly by cattle smugglers on the Dibir Haor border in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet.
The incident took place in Ghilatoil area around 10am on Sunday.
BGB and local sources said a group of smugglers entered Bangladesh along with Indian buffaloes early Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of five BGB members of Jaintapur border outpost started patrolling the Ghilatoil area and seized five buffaloes in their drive.
Then smugglers and villagers together carried out attacks on the BGB personnel and snatched the buffaloes from them.
Later, eight more BGB members came to their rescue.
Being informed, a team of police led by Jaintapur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohsin Ali and its Inspector (Investigation) Omar Faruk rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
Sylhet BGB Battalion 19 Commanding Officer Lt Col Md Rafiqul Islam said: ‘people of Ghilatoil village and cattle smugglers attacked the BGB personnel and snatched the Indian buffaloes from them.
‘Later, the BGB members conducted a drive again and seized the buffaloes,Ó he added.
OC Mohsin Ali said the border force filed a case with at the police station for obstruction of their duty.
“We have alreadz identified 16 people involved in the attack,” he added.
