The Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated in Bangladesh after three weeks.
In the meantime, efforts have been made to set up sacrificial cattle markets in different parts across the country.
However, the National Advisory Committee on Covid-19 has strongly advised not to set up cattle markets in Dhaka, Chittagong, Narayanganj and Gazipur City Corporation area.
On the other hand, fear expect massive financial losses due to adverse impact of the corona disease and strong opposition raised by a powerful group for health reason.
Anwar Hossain from Munshiganj every year arrive with five to seven cows before the Eid-ul-Adha. But this year he does not understand what to be done? He said, huge financial losses he will bear if he cannot sell the cows in the Dhaka cattle markets.
“Good prices are available by selling cows at Dhaka and Narayanganj market,” says Anwar Hossain.
“The level of coronavirus infection in the country has remained unchanged for more than a month. Neither it is increasing nor decreasing,” said the National Advisory Committee.
“The rate of infection may come down in next month if this situation continues,” they observed.
But that possibility could be thwarted if sacrificial cattle markets were set up in densely populated cities, including Dhaka and Chittagong.
Prof. Md. Shahidullah, President of the National Advisory Committee, said that they had recommended that cattle markets should not be set up in the four cities.
Professor Md. Shahidullah, President of the National Advisory Committee said, they have recommended that cattle markets should not be set up in the Dhaka, Chittagong, Gazipur and Narayanganj cities.
He said that everyone should be forced to abide by strict rules even if cattle markets are in other areas.
He mentioned that those above the age of fifty should not go to the cattle markets.
Local Government Minister Tajul Islam said, he was not yet aware of the National Committee’s advice.
However, thinking about the epidemic, we are in favor of limiting the cattle market.
He said, we are also encouraging people not to set up cattle market but giving advice of buying and selling online as an alternative.
It has been found that 22 to 23 percent of those being tested have coronavirus infection in the last one and a half months in the country.
