UNB, Dhaka :
BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon on Sunday alleged that all the makeshift cattle markets set up across the
country ahead of Eid-ul-Azha have been leased out to ruling party men.
“All the makeshift cattle markets across the country have been given lease to ruling party men. They’re now looting people by doubling hasil (charge that buyers pay on purchase of cattle),” he said.
Ripon came up with the allegation while speaking at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
He alleged that people will have to count extra money during this eid due to the extortion by the ruling party men from the cattle markets.
Referring to the killing of three demonstrators in police firing in Tangail’s Kalihati, Ripon lambasted the police force saying that such incident took place due to their excess.
“Members of the law-enforcement agencies killed three people like birds. We’ve seen their bodies lying down on roads like birds. Is it possible to kill people in such a manner in an independent country?”
Condemning the incident, Ripon said police fired on those demonstrated against assault on a woman instead of taking action against the offenders as they belong to the ruling party.
He demanded the government take stern action against those responsible for the incident.
The BNP leader said an anarchic situation has been prevailing in the country as the ruling party men have got desperate.
Ripon said their party will not arrange eid greetings programme on the Eid-ul-Azha day this time as their party chairperson Khaleda Zia remains outside the country.
He, however, said their party men will pay homage to BNP founder Ziaur Rahman by placing wreaths at his grave at 4pm on the eid day.
