Cattle markets getting momentum in Khulna

Cattle markets are getting momentum in Khulna city and 9 upazilas of the district with numerous purchasers and thousands of sacrificial animals ahead of forthcoming Eid ul Azha, one of the two religious festivals for the Muslims as four days left the festival.
At least 40 cattle markets were set at different parts of nine upazila areas of the district and in the city.
Md. Babul Rana, General Secretary of Khulna city unit Awami League inaugurated the cattle market of Khulna city at Zoragate area on Thursday ( July 15, 2021).
A huge number of sacrificial animals are being brought for sale at different cattle markets in the city and nine upazila areas in the district. The markets include Zoragate cattle market in the city, Shahpur hat in dumuria upazila, Phultala hat Digholia and some other hats in Batiaghata, Terokhada, Koyra, Paikgachha, Dakop and Rupsha upazila areas.
Traders told this correspondent that there are plenty of supplies of cattle to the markets and prices are exorbitant than that of the last year. But due to increasing of Corona pandemic, sales are not satisfactory.
Shamsul Haque , a cattle trader of Zoragate hat said, There is no shortage of animals, in spite of the fact that no cattle were brought from neighboring country this year. The price of cow is Tk.35,000 to Tk.95,000, sheep or goats are being sold from Tk.9000 to Tk.25,000.
Apart from the local buyers, the wholesale cattle traders are still sending the cattle at the markets in the city and nine upazila areas of the districts.
Meanwhile, currency screening machines were installed at some markets in the city and upazilas of the district as the fake note raketeers are active in the cattle markets.
