Cattle markets across the country are getting momentum amid high price of the sacrificial animal and the sale has already reached peak despite record supply the animals and surplus production only three days ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. Our correspondents and agencies report:
Ahsanul Amin George from Khulna reports: Cattle markets are getting momentum in Khulna city and 9 upazilas of the district with numerous purchasers and thousands of sacrificial animals ahead of Eid ul Azha, one of the two religious festivals for the Muslims as five days left the festival.
At least 27 cattle markets are established at different parts of nine upazila areas of the district and in the city.
A huge number of sacrificial animals are being brought for sale at different cattle markets in the city and nine upazila areas in the district. The markets include Zoragate cattle market in the city, Shahpur hat in Dumuria upazila, Phultala hat Digholia and some other hats in Batiaghata, Terokhada, Koyra, Paikgachha, Dakop and Rupsha upazila areas.
Traders told this correspondent that there are plenty of supplies of cattle to the markets and prices are exorbitant than that of the last year.
Abu Taleb, a cattle trader of Shahpur hat said, There is no shortage of animals, in spite of the fact that no cattle were brought from neighboring country this year. The price of cow is Tk.30,000 to Tk.90,000, sheep or goats are being sold from Tk.7000 to Tk.20,000.
Apart from the local buyers, the wholesale cattle traders are still sending the cattle at the markets in the city and nine upazila areas of the districts.
Meanwhile, currency screening machines were installed at some markets in the city and upazilas of the district as the fake note raketeers are active in the cattle markets.
Sheikh Moniruzzaman Mithu, additional deputy commissioner, city SB of KMP said, effective security measures were taken at the cattle markets.
He further said that KMP had taken measures so that the cattle markets are not set up on roads and streets disrupting the vehicular movements.
“In order to ease traffic congestion in and around the cattle markets in the city, we have launched traffic management,” he added.
Bogra Correspondent reports: As Eid-ul-Azha is coming nearer, uncertainty over purchasing of sacrificial animals is getting stronger due to high price.
District Live Stock sources said, farmers of Bogra have prepared about 6 million cattle for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. These animals are already being sold in different markets in Bogra.
Dr. Shafiuzzaman, District Livestock Officer, Bogra informed, a total of 18099 farm owners have 574563 cattle in 12 upazilas of the district.
 Among them there are 88956 in Sadar upazila, 52609 in Gabtoli, 50226 in Sariakadi, 54234 in Sonatola, 52347 in Kahaloo, 54110 in Shibganj, 19737 in Adamdighi, 19924 in Dupchachiya, 3480 in Nandigram, 58795 in Sherpur, 48488 in Dhunut, 4600 cattles in Shahajahanpur upazila of the district.
 He also added, Bogra people can easily complete sacrificed, with their domestic sources. There is no need to bring cattle from outer district. Among the cattle, there are 169439 cows, 680 buffaloes, 373324 goats, 31120 sheep.
Additional district Livestock Officer, Dr. Mohammad Rana said, in previous Eid 446500 cattle were slaughtered. According as there will be no crisis of sacrificing cattle in this Eid.
M.A. Awal from Narsingdi reports: A large number of local cattleheads including bullocks, cows and buffaloes are being imported in different sacrificial markets including the biggest Potia Market under Shibpur upazila in the district ahead of three days ahead Eid-ul-Azha.
 Sufferings to the traders as the insignificant customers, it is seen. According to six upazila Nirbahi office sources said that a total of 105 cattle head markets are running in the district. The upazila wise markets are as, sadar-31,Belabo-10, Monohardi 19, Shibpur-11, Polash 06 and Raipura 28. On the other hand hast of the cattle heads are being attacked by leg disease (khura) while the customers are not interested to purchase as it is not perfect for sacrifice in the Eid-ul-Azha.
Animal resource officer of the district Dr. Abdus Samad told The New Nation that above one lac cows have been supplied on ahead of Eid-ul-Azha from 532 diary farm and 4000 readers in different markets. The owner of Baki diary farm Sharifuzzaman of Basail under Narsingdi city said. The number of cow traders one lower than previous years as the local traders are interested to purchase a little cows.
The lease of Potia hat Abdul Jalil Member told this correspondent that this hat always sat on Saturday while it also sat two days including Wednesday too on ahead Eid-ul-Azah the prices of cattle heads are hire due to business alerted and political instability in the courtesy, decrepit of rural epoxy and lack of money to the middle class people.
 Trader Khorshed miah of same area told that he brought three bullocks on upcoming Eid-ul-Azha for sale while one bullock died of leg (khura) disease attacked valued Tk. 56000. The indian cows are not available at potia market this year. The trader Amjad Hossain said.
BSS from Rangpur reports: Sacrificial animal sale reached peak despite comparatively higher price amid record supply following surplus production in cattle markets of Rangpur division, only four days ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
The cattle markets have been witnessing plenty supply of locally reared sacrificial animals following remarkable boost in the local animal husbandry sector in recent years.
According to market sources, the buyers prefer locally reared healthier and hygienic cattle-heads as sacrificial animals than the artificially fattened or extremely lower number of imported ones.
According to Divisional Deputy Director of the Department of Livestock Swapan Kumar Paul, the farmers produced 8.65 lakh sacrificial animals against demand of 6.30 lakh in eight districts under Rangpur division this season.
“There is no need of importing animals to meet local demand of sacrificial animals”, he added.
According to cattle traders, price of sacrificial animals started rising since the past couple of days making the farmers happy as the purchase reached peak amid huge supply of locally reared healthier cattle-heads with minimum number of imported ones.
The administrations concerned have taken adequate security measures and are conducting patrols round the clock for ensuing smooth carrying of cattle heads on the roads and highways.
Besides, currency screening machines have been installed at the cattle markets for preventing use of fake notes and forgery in the markets on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha festivity.
According to market sources, farmers are getting 15 to 20 percent higher price than the last year of their reared bullocks, calves, cows, goats and buffaloes following huge boost in animal husbandry sector with record supply in the local cattle markets.
Meanwhile, the bigger animal traders have been sending their locally purchased cattle heads, thousands in number, to the capital city and other areas from Rangpur division.
Cattle traders Mohammad Ali, Zahidur Rahman and Rahim Mian at Lalbag cattle market here said the supply further increased since yesterday where most cattle heads are being sold at 15 to 20 percent higher price than last year.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: Most of the cattle markets have now been flooded with domestic animals in this region by virtue of house to house cattle farming, rearing and fattening besides creation of dairy farms.
As a whole, the boosted up native cattle production has been dominating the markets of sacrificial animals. In most of the cattle markets, the buyers were seen opting to purchase native animals.
Atiqur Rahman Kalu, Lease Holder of City Hat, said the cattle markets are being witnessed a record supply of sacrificial animals in the adjacent districts following huge boost in the local animal husbandry sector in recent years.
He mentioned that the local animal husbandry sector has marked a revolutionary boost in recent years following massive steps taken by the government and different development organizations.
Both in rural and urban areas, the poor and marginalized people including women have achieved tremendous successes in the sector getting various assistances from the government and development partners.
