Catching fish in Kaptai Lake to resume Aug 21

Catching of fish in Kaptai Lake will start here from midnight on August 21 as the three-month ban on catching ends on the day.
At the midnight on May 18, local district administration had imposed a ban on catching, selling and transportation of fish from Kaptai Lake to ensure safe spawning and protect the mother fish during its peak breeding period.
The Kaptai Lake, which is the largest man-made freshwater resource in the South-East Asia a as well as in Bangladesh, continues to serve as a good and important source for fish production.
Commercial exploitation of fish from Kaptai Lake started in 1965. Since then considerable amount of fish are producing every year from this lake that is an important part of the total inland water catch.
The ban on fishing in Kaptai Lake has withdrawn at an emergency meeting of the local district administration here today with additional deputy commissioner M Mostafa Zaman in the chair.
