Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Thursday categorically said the casino business may run across the country after taking approval through legal process as per country’s rules and regulation in this regard.
But the law enforcers to carry out the ongoing crackdown against all unauthorized business, including casinos and drugs.
The minister said this while talking to reporters in a press briefing at his office in the Secretariat Bhaban on Thursday afternoon.
“We don’t issue licenses for casinos. Government approval is needed for running casinos. That’s why law enforcers have started drive in casinos,” the minister said.
“We will take legal action if any people in the administration is found cooperating the casino business. They will face trial,” Kamal said at a press conference at his ministry office in the secretariat this afternoon.
Responding to a query in this regard, Kamal claimed they had intelligence that the people who were engaged in running the casino did not have any permission from the government.
On Wednesday evening, Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan, Organising Secretary of Dhaka South city unit of Jubo League, and also president of Fakirerpool Youngmen’s Club, from Gulshan area for running an illegal casino.
Meanwhile, the elite force sealed off three more casinos in Banani, Motijheel and Gulistan areas.
According to media reports, there are 60 illegal casinos so far in the capital.
Gambling takes place regularly at the casinos situated in Segunbagicha, Motijheel, Fakirerpool, Dilkusha, Bank Colony, Arambagh, Nayapaltan, Kakrail, Gulistan, Osmani Udyan, Bangabazar, Gulshan Link Road, Uttara, New Market and Kalabagan areas.
