‘Cashless society in country imminent’

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar on Saturday said cashless society in Bangladesh is imminent due to the outcome of government’s digital activities. “Internet dependency has transformed our life in every sphere of society . . . and the Covid-19 situation has made the digital financial service inevitable,” he said.
The minister was addressing a webinar titled “Digital Bangladesh 2021: Payment System and Fintech” as chief guest, said a ministry press release. Mentioning that Bangladesh becomes an instance in digital financial service globally, he said country’s people have trusted and received the digital financial service which is an outcome of “digital Bangladesh” campaign of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Underlying the use of Bangla in communicating with people through SMS and other ways, Jabbar said it would help establish meaningful communication between customers and financial service providers.
