A mobile court on Sunday filed cases against 47 vehicles for carrying goods exceeding their permitted capacity.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Sitakunda Upazila Ruhul Amin conducted the mobile court in Boro Darogahat area under Sitakunda upazila of the district and took the move against the vehicles.
The court also fined the owners of 16 trucks and covered vans Tk 16 thousand for the same ground during the drive.
AC (Land) Ruhul Amin said the court during the drive tested a total of 70 vehicles, of which 63 were found carrying goods beyond their authorised capacity.
“The court sued regular cases against 47 vehicles and fined 16 others according to Section-154 of the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1983”, he said adding that the mobile court was conducted in order to save public lives and protect the highway as overloaded vehicles often cause traffic jam and damage roads and highways.
