Cases cross 16,000, 11 more die in 24 hours

Eleven more died from coronavirus in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours till Tuesday, taking the total fatalities in the country to 250.
Besides, 969 more coronavirus cases were reported in the country during the period to bring the tally to 16,660.
Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin at the Management Information System (MIS) in the afternoon.
Among the deceased, seven were male, Dr Nasima said adding that one of them was 81-90 years old, two between 71-80, five within 61-70 and three 51-60 years old.
Most of the deceased were from Dhaka division: five from Dhaka city, one from Narayanganj and one from Narsingdi.
She said 245 more patients recovered from Covid-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 3,147.
Prof Nasima said 6,773 samples were tested in 37 labs across the country in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 136,638 tested in the country.

On Monday, Bangladesh recorded 11 more deaths from coronavirus and record 1,034 new cases.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has reached 287,293 as of Tuesday morning.
It has so far infected 4,254,800 people around the world, according to Worldometer.
 Of the currently infected 2,440,363 patients, 2,393,427 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, while 46,936 or 2 percent are in serious condition.
So far, 1,527,144 people have recovered from COVID-19.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
The coronavirus is affecting 212 countries and territories around the world and 2 international conveyances.
