Anti-food adulteration drive by BSTI: Cases against 132 businesses

Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) on Tuesday filed cases against 132 business institutions, including Ali Baba and Muslim Sweets, in the capital as well as across the country.
A case has been filed against Ali Baba Sweets in Tejturi Bazar and Muslim Sweets and Bakeri at Naya Paltan in the capital for selling curd without BSTI license.
Besides, a case has been filed against M/s Al Arabian Cakes and Sweets in Panthapath and M/s Samabaya Bazar in Darus Salam area of Mirpur due to not mentioning the weight, value, production and expiry date and product contact in Bengali.
Cases were filled against Tanim Oil Mills, Alhaj Sheikh Enterprises and Oil Mill, Krishna Oil Mill, Janani Yellow and Oil Mill, Shyama Sweetmeat Bhandar, Balai Sweetmeat Bhandar and New Khazana Hotel and Restaurant of Khulna’s Phultala for selling goods without CM license (Quality Certificate).
Cases were also lodged against M/s Ripon Hotel and Restaurant, AS Lachcha Semai and M/s Zahid Traders for the offense in weight and in Dupchanchia of Bogra for selling good without taking the BSTI license.
A case was filed against Monir and Sons of the Bandar Bazar area of Sylhet for using weight machine without obtaining verification certificate from the BSTI as per the Weight and Measurement Act-2018.
In addition, cases were also filed for various irregularities during the BSTI drives in Agrabad and Chawkbazar areas of Chittagong and a total of Tk 49,500 was fined against 14 companies.
As they did not have the CM license of BSTI, cases were filed against M/s Asan Miyar’s meat shop in Tomsom Bridge area, M/s Azad Food and Chemical Industries, M/s Bandishahi Murir mill.
