Case over stabbing policemen, mugger put on remand

A Dhaka court yesterday placed alleged mugger Sumon alias Imon on a two-day remand in a case filed over stabbing five policemen at the gate of Bangshal Police Station in the capital. Magistrate Begum Ishrat Jahan of the Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order after hearing.
Earlier, Bangshal Police produced Sumon in the court seeking a 10-day remand while the court granted two-day remand.
Five members of Bangshal Police Station including a Sub-Inspector (SI) were stabbed by muggers in front of Bangshal Police Station in Dhaka on Wednesday night.
Of them, constable Nazrul Islam was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital while four others including SI Robi Hasan received first aid, police said. Nazrul was seriously injured.
The incident took place around 11:30pm on Wednesday after a team of police arrested two muggers- Emon and Jewel from Gulistan area and took them to Bangshal Police Station on a police van.
While getting down from the van in front of the station, one of the muggers brought out a knife and started stabbing the law enforcers indiscriminately, said Alamgir Hossain, an SI of Bangshal Police Station.
Other three injured policemen are- ASI Tajul Islam, Constable Sajib and Shafiqul.
