Post-election violence: Case lodged against 23 people in Kalapara

A case has been filed with Mahipur Police Station under Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali on Saturday accusing 23 people by name and other 25 unidentified persons in connection with the attack on a police sub-inspector and seven constables during post-election violence at Kalapara in Patuakhali.
Sub Inspector of Mahipur police station Halim Hawladar became the plaintiff of the case. Police have arrested Abdul Jalil Gharami, one of the main accused of the case.
According to the police and local sources, UP election was held in Latachapali union of the upazila on last Wednesday. Supporters of the defeated member candidate of Ward No. 2 attacked the supporters of the winning member candidate on Friday afternoon.
The winning candidate Abul Hossain informed Mahipur Police Station; the police arrested a supporter of the defeated candidate named Khalil.
Enraged at this, at least two hundred men and women surrounded the Mahipur police station to snatch the accused Khalil Gharami and threw brick-bats at the police station building.
