Police on Sunday night lodged a case over seizure of Tk58 lakh from a person in Chittagong Court Building area on October 14. Md Elias Bhuiyan,30, who was carrying the money in the Court Building area, was made accused in the case.
Although Shahidul Islam Murad, a surveyor of the district Land Acquisition (LA) office, was made accused in the case filed by police, he (Murad) was included in the FIR as he was the suspected recipient of the money. Kamruzzaman, sub-inspector of Kotwali police station, filed the case under the Money Laundering Prevention Act- 2012 (MLPA). The plaintiff of the case said Anti- Corruption Commission will investigate the case according to the law.
The plaintiff in the FIR of the case said Elias earned the money allegedly by means of corruption as he could not show any evidence in support of his ownership of the money.
Elias told police that he was carrying the money for handing it over to Murad on land acquisition purposes.
On the day of his arrest, both Murad and Elias had telephonic conversations at least 11 times.
Meanwhile, AKM Mohiuddin Selim, officer-in-charge, and Kamruzzaman, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station, on Monday replied to the show cause notice after appearing before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Md Farid Alam.
