Staff Reporter :
A murder case has been filed on Wednesday with the Moulvibazar district’s Barolekha Police Station in connection with the death of a newborn during the transport strike.
After four days of the incident, Akbar Ali, uncle of that newborn, filed the case with Barolekha Police Station on Wednesday night (October 31) accusing 160-170 unidentified persons.
We are still shocked. We could not overcome the grief yet. For this reason, we took time to file the case against the culprits, Akbar added.
According to case statement, family members took the seven-day old ailing baby to Barlekha upazila health complex on October 25 morning where doctors recommended to take the child to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) as soon as possible.
As they started their journey by an ambulance, agitating transport workers stalled the ambulance in Dorgabazar area. The ambulance driver was also beaten by transport workers.
As a result, the child died in the ambulance on the way to hospital.
Yasinul Huq, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Barlekha Police Station told media that the plaintiff of the case did not know who among the transport workers were responsible.
Police are investigating the matter to identify the culprits, OC added.
