A case was filed on Sunday over Saturday’s clash between locals and police at Madanpur in Bandar upazila that left a person dead.
Mohammad Ali, a Sub-Inspector of Bandar Police Station, filed the case against 24 identified and 300 unidentified people, said Azharul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Earlier on Saturday, a team of police conducted a drive at Dreamland Restaurant at Madanpur and arrested Rifat, 30, and Nabi, 32 — supporters of Khalil Member, a local influential, in connectionwith a case. However, it was announced through loudspeakers of a local mosque that a group of robbers invaded the village. Soon after the announcement, locals equipped with lethal weapons attacked police, triggering a clash that left 21 people, seven policemen, injured.
Ashiqur, 25, a garment worker and son of Shahidul Islam of Chandpur in Madanpur, received bullet injuries in the melee and succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital early Sunday.
