A case has been lodged with Bakerganj police station of Barisal district on Tuesday night in connection of death of rape victim teenage schoolgirl Sonia by burning herself.
Bakerganj police station officer-in-charge Masuduzzaman said Shefali Begum, mother of the victim as complainant, lodged the case on Tuesday night under different sections of the act for preventing torture against women and children. Denying giving details the OC of police said Asad Khan, neighbour and paternal uncle of the victim, Arif Khan, brother of Asad, Mosharraf Hossain Panna, their father, and Tarek, maternal cousin of Asad were named as accused in the case. Drives to arrest the accused going on, the OC of the PS added.
However, Shefali Begum, mother of the victim and complainant of the case, said her daughter was burnt to death by the accused after rape.
Local sources said Sonia, the aged around 13, was class-seven student of local school, attempted to commit suicide by setting fire to her body after being raped by neighbouring uncle Asad on December 27. She was sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital and died there from her burn-injuries on December 31.
The dead body of the victim was handed over to the family after post-mortem examinations and brought to home on January 1.
She was buried at Bakerganj in Barisal on Tuesday January 2 morning in presence of the police.
