Case filed against OC, 6 others in Chattogram

A Tk 3-crore compensation case has been filed against seven people, including officer-in-charge of Akbar Shah Police Station Muhammad Alamgir, for illegally evicting a family from a disputed land.
Zakir Hossain, a freedom fighter, filed the case with the court of Chattogram Joint District Judge Mohammad Ali on Monday, said Advocate Shimla Chowdhury, a counsel of the plaintiff.
The court took cognisance of the complaint and issued a notice in this regard.
The other accused are Mohammad Ishak, Hafizur Rahman, Alauddin-three sons of Sheikh Ahmed, Sheikh Ahmed’s two daughters Hazera Khatun and Laila Khatun, and Zohra Khatun, wife of Nur Hossain, residents of Munshirbari of the city.
According to the case statement, Zakir Hossain had an enmity with the sons and daughters of Sheikh Ahmed over the ownership of a piece of land. Following the conflict, they filed a case against Zakir Hossain on June 15, 1991.
On April 28, 1994, a court delivered its judgment in favour of Zakir but the accused filed an appeal against the order. But the judge court also delivered its judgment in favour of Zakir.
On April 3, 2013, the local administration in the presence of police and magistrate handed over the ownership of the land to Zakir. Later, another appeal was filed against the court order eight days after the handover of the land and a court ordered maintaining status quo.
On April 8 last, OC Alamgir forcibly evicted Zakir, his family and tenants from the disputed land although the matter was pending with the court.
In response to the police action, Zakir filed the case with the court seeking Tk 3 crore as compensation.
