Sitakunda inferno : Death toll rises to 45: Case filed against 8, Depot owner not among them

Without disclosing the names, the Chattogram District Police filed a case against eight suspects in connection with the BM Container Depot fire incident last night.
The eight accused – involved with operations at BM Container Depot – have been charged for negligence, causing the deaths of 45 people.
The depot owner, Mujibur Rahman, was not among the eight accused, sources said.
Sub-Inspector Ashraf Siddique filed the case with Sitakunda Model Police Station on Tuesday night, Ashraful Karim, Additional Superintendent of Police of Sitakunda Circle told the journalists on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the death toll from the massive fire incident at BM container depot rose to 45 with 36 years old crane driver Masud Rana succumbed to his burn injuries at Chattogram Medical College Hospital on Wednesday early morning.
The deceased was identified as Md Masud Rana, 37, son of Khalilur Rahman, from Gopinathpur area at Sarishabari in Jamalpur.
However, the case was filed against them for their alleged negligence in running the depot properly, the Additional Police Super said.
Though they were identified but the police official did not give additional information about them until they were arrested.
Ashraf said the matter is being investigated and if specific allegation is found against them, then they would be added to the suspect list.
Apart from the eight named accused, unidentified persons (number not known) have also been made accused in the case.
It is to be noted that, an explosion took place at BM Container Depot in Sitakunda on Saturday night. At least 45 people, including nine members of the fire service, were killed. Hundreds of people have been burnt and are being treated at different hospitals.
