The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Tuesday deferred the submission of the investigation report in the case filed against the students of seven colleges, affiliated to Dhaka University, to December 5.
Magistrate Golam Nabi of the CMM Court passed the order as the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case did not submit the concerned report yesterday. Earlier, November 7 was the date for submission of the report.
In the morning of July 20, the students of seven Dhaka University affiliated colleges demonstrated at Shahbagh demanding the date of their final examination. On the occasion, the striking students reportedly attacked the police, who were trying to maintain law and discipline.
Consequently, police resorted to lathi-charge and lobbed tear gas shells on the striking students. There were chasing and counter-chasing between the law-enforcers and the students which led to the injuries of a number of students including Titumir College student Siddiqur Rahman. His both eyes were damaged due to teargas-shell hurled at him allegedly from very close distance.
The following day, Sub-Inspector Md Mazhar of Shahbagh Police Station lodged a case with police station accusing 1200 unknown people on the charges of interrupting police, who were performing their duties, attack on them, attempt to kill them and for conducting terrorist activities on them.
