Cargo handlings enhanced in Ctg Port despite blockade, hartal

The impact of the blockade and hartal of the opposition in last three months could not affect the port activities as well as import and export activities .
 From the very beginning of the current year, the container handlings turn more than double than the corresponding period of the last year.
 Mentionable that Chittagong Port creates new history by breaking all old records of container handling in last month of the current year despite the hartal and blockade programmes of the 20-party opposition alliance across the country since January 5 .
The port activities during last March broke the previous records of 128 years, port sources said.
 Concerned sources observed it will remain as milestone for Chittagong Port. According to port sources about 1 lakh 55 thousand 908 TEUs containers were handled during the period and the last record of handling was 1 lakh 54 thousand 759 in August of last year.
No affect on import and export activities through Chittagong Port witnessed during the last three months but some hurdles experienced on transportation of consignment from the port shed a reliable port sources said.
 Chittagong Port Traffic Department sources said in first two months of the current year, 91 lakh 51 thousand 176 metric tons cargo were delivered from port whereas in same corresponding period of 2014 , only 14 lakh 50 thousand tons cargo were released. In first two months of the current year, 77 lakh 11 thousand 500 tons cargo was discharged from the vessels .
Port officials said , due to efficiency, ability and hard labour of the workers, it came into reality to create new history.
CP Chairman Rear Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed also told the media that container handling in this port is increasing gradually every year but the old record was broken in last month and the port activities during the oppositions programmes could not affected at all.
He also hoped that CP can handle any volume of containers to race the global competitions with other neighbouring ports, sources said.
