The cargo handling in inner and outer berths of the Chittagong Port suspended following the danger signal No.7 in the maritime ports .
At the same time, port authority announced No.3 alert . It is learnt from port sources that two separate meeting with the senior officials of the port authority were held to face the cyclone ‘Comen’ with Chairman Rear Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed in the chair yesterday morning. The meeting decided to suspend cargo handling in inner berths and outer berths , formation of medical team and berthing of vessels, boat in Bay at safer places. Member of Port(Admn & Planning) Jafar Alam told that to take preparations against the natural disaster, port declared redalert inside the port . He also said loading , unloading in vessels at inner berths totally suspended but limited numbers of cargo delivery from port yard is existed in some extents.
Pending normalization of weather, the cargo handling will resume he added. Port sources further said to take preparatory arrangement against the natural calamity, Alert No. 3 hoisted inside the port and all departments have been asked to take their necessary precautions against the cyclone Comen.
