A private car driver lost his leg as a speedy bus of Green Line Paribahan ran over him on Mayor Hanif flyover in Dhaka’s Jatrabari on Saturday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Rasel Sarker, 23, son of Shafiqul Islam in Palashbari upazila of Gaibandha district.
Locals rescued Rasel and rushed him to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) round 4:00pm.
Rasel worked in a ‘Rent a Car’ institute in city’s Adabar area.
Police chased the bus down, arrested the driver and seized the bus from near the National Press Club.
According to witnesses and police, while Rasel was driving his car it was rammed by a bus on the slopes of Jatrabari flyover. He got out of the car and tried to stop the bus, but the driver first hit him and ran over his leg.
Baccu Mia, In-Charge of DMCH Police Outpost, said, pedestrians and locals rushed Rasel to DMCH. His left leg was amputated. Later, he was shifted to Square Hospital in the city’s Panthapath for better treatment.
Abul Hasan, Offcer-in-Cahrge of Shahbagh Police Station, said, “Rasel went to Karaniganj along with some passengers and he was returning from there. A bus of the Green Line Paribahan rammed his car near the flyover at Dholappar under Jatrabari around 3:00pm.”
Rasel stopped his car and asked the bus driver for the reason of the incident. Centering a squeal of quarrel between them, the driver became angry and ran the bus on Rasel that caused separation of his left leg, the police official said. Earlier on April 20, a young woman lost a leg after being hit by a bus in the capital’s Banani, while Rajib Hossain lost his arm in a race between two buses in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar on April 3.
