With the holy Eid-ul-Fitr drawing nearer, the tupi(cap) makers at Kawnia upazila in the district are now busy with manufacturing different varieties of caps.
Hafez Abdul Awal, owner of a tupi factory at Khefati village under the upazila said the workers have been passing busy hours making caps due to increased demand on the eve of Eid.
They are making product according to the demand of the buyers during this peak season. Those are supplied to different districts of the country and also some Arab countries including Oman he also said. His tupi factory has created job opportunities for a good number of extreme poor rural women, Awal added. Some tupi workers told The New Nation that every year the demand for tupi increases ahead of Eid. They also wait for the Eid festival to earn a major portion of their yearly income. “Every year we make tupi with various design during the peak season”.
They are working day and night to fulfill the demand of the buyers, they added.
Sakina Begum (35), a ‘tupi ‘worker said she does embroidery works and makes designs according to the order of the factory. “We get Tk 3000 to Tk 4000 for per month for making tupi , some workers of MH tupi factory of the upazila said. A worker can knit three caps in a week depending on design and decoration, they added.
Owner of some ‘tupi’ factories of the upazila said, they give the workers cloth, yarn and other inputs. After completion of work the supervisors collect the products.
These extreme poor women in the upazila are directly engaged in making stylish caps and thus they are contributing in their family income by earning around Tk 3000 to Tk4000 per month, they also said.
The stylish and fashionable caps, manufactured in the factories of Kawnia upazila has already become famous in the country, they added.
