Candy factory sealed off at Keraniganj: 4 fined

UNB, Dhaka :A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) sealed off a milk candy factory at Keraniganj on the outskirts of the capital on Wednesday on charge of candies with adulterated ingredients and low quality milk.The mobile court also fined four of its employees, including the manager, Tk 1 lakh each, in default, to suffer three months simple jail. The punished workers are factory manager Md Muzaddedul Islam Mazu, 43, and Sheikh Tariq Aziz, 40, Md Nasir Uddin Khan, 32, and Bishawjit, 43.The mobile court of Rab-10, led by Rab Headquarters executive magistrate AHM Anwar Pasha, conducted a drive at ‘Yoko Food and Agro Ltd’ at Godarbagh in Keraniganj in between 12pm and 3pm.Contacted, magistrate Anwar Pasha said although the six-storey factory building is equipped with modern equipment, it was found after inspection that candies are being made with low quality materials.Very poor quality milk powder, kept in sacks, is being used for making chocolates and lozenges to reduce cost, he said quoting Muzaddedul.These low quality dairy milk chocolates are very harmful to child health, the Rab magistrate added.Two years back, the factory, which was then situated in East Rayerbagh Khanka Sharif area of the capital, was fined Tk 2 lakh for producing fake Alpenliebe candies.
