CEC's warning: ‘Candidature to be declared void if code violated’

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed said that no one would be shown leniency during the coming CCC election and none would be allowed to violate the election code of conduct. He said, if any candidate violates the code, his candidature might be declared void. He further cautioned against any occurrence of vote rigging and hijacking of ballot box.
He said it while addressing the Mayor and councillor candidates at a posh Community Hall in the city yesterday morning. CEC said: All preparations to hold the fair and free election have been made ready and I hope that every candidate should abide to the code of conduct. A number of monitoring teams have been constituted to monitor the election campaign.
The CEC sought cooperation from all the candidates for holding a free and fair election. He further said, during the election period, additional law enforcers will be deployed to meet the emergency. He also apprised the newsmen that cast votes will be counted in presence of the journalists in each centre. Election Commissioner Javed Ali and Md. Shahnewaz were present in the meeting, sources said.
 Among others, Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong Md Abdullah, Returning Officer Abdul Baten, Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Mesbahuddin and CMP Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mandol were present on the occasion.
