NCC polls: Candidates continue hectic campaigns

Mayoral candidates have started a hectic election campaign ahead of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) polls scheduled to be held on December 22.
Awami League-backed mayoral candidate and outgoing mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, BNP-backed candidate Shakhawat Hossain Khan on Sunday visited door to door to woo supports of the voters.
The candidates are currently busy establishing mass contact, briefing rallies moving door steps of
the voters, where they are promising various issues and highlighting their own development agendas to win voters’ hearts.
Selina Hayat Ivy during campaign accused her opponent BNP-backed mayoral candidate Shakhawat Hossain Khan is trying to tarnish her good image by spreading lies.
“I always speak the truth. I am one person army and I have not any cohort but Shakhawat Hossain is trying to attract the voters saying that my men used to threaten his campaigners,” Ivy said this during her electioneering at NCC 11,12 And 13 No word around noon.
Earlier, BNP candidate Shakhawat alleged that leaders and activists of Awami League are threatening his activists saying not to work for him. Countering Shakhawat allegations Ivy said: Shakhawat is just trying to intimidate saying lies, no one is threatening his men.
The first female mayor of the country also told The New Nation that every day I get out from my house alone. Later thousands of people from all walks of live join with me.
She said: I was the mayor of NCC and I had worked for all. All voters of the city are same to me and they love me. That’s why it is quite impossible for me to threaten my voters.
Shakhawat said that people of Narayanganj are very much eager to vote for me. People of the city are waiting to vote on ‘sheaf of paddy’ symbol.
“I will win the election with big margin”, Shakhawat said while talking to reporters during his electioneering in Shitalakkha River Bandar area on Sunday noon.
Later he conducted electioneering at words 24, 25 and 26.
He said, BNP joined the NCC election to ensure people’s voting rights and to bring back democracy in the country.
Shakhawat believes that he will be the winner, if the election is free and fair. He also promising to the voters to establish higher education institutions, solve traffic problem and solve residential problem of the workers.
He also assured to the people that he will work for all if he win in the election.
Biplobi Workers Party candidate Mahbubur Rahman said if I am elected, I will establish a Labour Court for workers, establish a modern hospital for workers, IT park and establish modern and environment friendly industries.
Meanwhile, Selina Hayat Ivy yesterday demanded withdrawal of Siddhirganj Police Station’s officer-in-charge (OC) over his “controversial” role in the upcoming Narayanganj City Corporation election.
She made the demand while talking to the journalists during her election campaign in the city, reports a Narayanganj correspondent.
“I demand withdrawal of the Siddhirganj’s OC for his controversial roles,” she said without mentioning any specific reason. Being optimistic, she said, “Despite all conspiracies of different quarters, I’ll win if the election commission and law enforcers remain strict.”
She also said that she would accept the verdict of the people in the election, scheduled to be held on December 22.
