Ovibhabok Oikya Forum (OF) on Friday demanded cancellation of Primary Education Completion (PEC) examination from this year.
The leaders of the OF also demanded stoppage of coaching business in the name of quality education by enacting law.
They placed this demand at a human chain held in front of the National Press Club in the morning.
About five hundred teachers, guardians and students took part in the programme.
OF President Ziaul Kabir Dulu presided over the human chain programme while its General Secretary Atiqur Rahman moderated it.
Professor M A Mazid, Advocate Younus Ali Akand, former student leader Moloy Sarker, human rights activist Monzur Hossain Esa, General Secretary of Bangladesh Nari Mukti Kendra Morjina Khatun, General Secretary of Ideal Forum Md Selim Uddin, Engineer Fahim Uddin, Md Selim Miah, OF Mugda unit President Sawkot-ul-Alam, OF leaders Dr Abdus Sobhan, H A Manik, Dilara Chowdhury, S I Majumder, Abul Hossain and Bashirul Kabir were present at the programme, among others.
Ziaul Kabir Dulu said that the decision of the Education Ministry to take Primary Examination Completion as public examination was a mistake.
He also blamed the Ministry for not discussing with the educationists, intellectuals, teachers and guardians before taking decision of holding the PEC examination.
Supporting the speech of Cultural Minister, he said that the lecture of Asaduzzaman Noor on education system was absolutely right. The Cultural Minister recently at a programme said, there is no student in the country now but examinee.
Atiqur Rahman said, the children are compelled to bear extra pressure due to the PEC examination.
“It is time to make themselves fit both mentally and physically for the future. Their growth will be hampered if they are forced to bear extra burden. Some teachers and guardians force the primary level students to get so-called GPA-5. It makes difficulties in their brain. There is no solution to save our future generation, but to stop the PEC examination system,” Atiqur Rahman said.
He also alleged that the teachers opened many coaching centers centering the PEC examination. So the education business in the name of quality education should be stopped soon, he said.
