UNB, Dhaka :
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry on Wednesday recommended cancellation of registration of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) as it did not seek apology within the deadline for making insulting remarks on the Jatiya Sangsad.
“(The image of) Parliament will have to be protected. NGOs should come under the purview of accountability,” chairman of the parliamentary standing committee Suranjit Sengupta said at a press conference at the Parliament’s media centre
after a meeting of the committee. Pointing finger at TIB, Suranjit said, “Crow should act like crow, crow could not act as peacock. Despite being an NGO, TIB did it. TIB’s registration will have to be cancelled for undermining the Parliament.”
Noting that NGO Affairs Bureau under the Prime Minister’s Office can take action against registration of any NGO, he said no NGO has rights to undermine the Parliament.
