Canadian police want to interrogate former Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’ s energy adviser Mahmudur Rahman in connection with Niko graft.
“The Canadian authorities in January last sent a mutual legal assistance request (MLR) to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) through the Attorney General Office, seeking permission to question three people in connection with Niko graft,” ACC Commissioner M Shahabuddin told reporters at his office on Monday afternoon.
Canadian police had actually wanted to quiz three people-Morshed Khan, former Finance Minster M Saifur Rahman and Mahmudur Rahman- as they were not aware about Saifur Rahman’s death. He was killed in a road accident on September 5, 2009. Confirming that the ACC has received a letter from the Canadian Royal Mounted Police in this regard, Shahabuddin said the national anti-graft body has agreed to allow the Canadian police to interrogate the two BNP leaders. On their arrival, the Canadian police will quiz detained Mahmudur Rahman at jail gate, he said.
Allegations are there that a Canadian senator lobbied with Bangladesh authorities concerned to help Niko get the work. The Canadian authorities are currently probing the graft allegation.
