Sagar Biswas :Tamim Chowdhury, leader of a faction of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahedin Bangladesh [JMB], now conducting terror acts in Bangladesh being inspired by global terrorist organization Islamic State [IS], used to pay visit to Kalyanpur den regularly. Intelligence sources said the recent wave of killings in Bangladesh attributed to a regional franchise of ISIL, is led by Tamim Chowdhury, a Canadian and former southwestern Ontario resident.He returned to the country about two years back and coordinating the terror attacks taking shelter at a secret place, the sources said, adding that detained Rakibul Hassan Regan [who was caught alive at Kalyanpur] divulged the information to the police. In the case, filed by the police with the Mirpur Model Police Station on Wednesday night over Kalynpur incident, also mentioned the above information about Tamim Chowdhury.Sources close to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Headquarters said that Tamim Chowdhury played a key role to establish a link between the local militants and international terrorist outfits. During preliminary interrogation Regan also disclosed to the investigators that apart from Tamim Chowdhury, the Kalyanpur den was also regularly visited by Khalid, Mamun, Ripon, Manik, Zonayed Khan, Badal and Azadul Kabir alias Kabiraj. “In the meetings, the militants used to inspire themselves with discussing religious subjects and Jihadi matters. Leaders of other banned militant outfits assured them of giving money, arms-ammunition-explosives, training and consultancy, Regan also divulged to the police,” Chief of Counter Terrorism and Transitional Crimes Unit, Monirul Islam. “Of the names disclosed by Regan, most were false or organizational names, except Tamim Chowdhury and Zonayed Khan. So far as I know, the militants take false names to conduct operation in disguise. For that reason, the sleeper cell members cannot describe names or other identities of top ranking leaders if they are arrested,” he said.Meanwhile, the terrorist outfits are providing money and other assistance to their members if any of them is killed in performing Jihad. Families of 51 members of Harkat-ul Jihad Al Islami [HuJI], who are now engaged in war in different countries, are getting regular monetary assistance from the organization. Intelligence officials have gotten the above information quizzing three HuJI operatives, including its Dhaka city commander Nazimuddin.Sources said several members of banned Islamist outfit HuJI are now engaged in ‘Jihad’ in Syria and Afghanistan. According to information available, two HuJI operatives were killed in Afghanistan recently. Some of them also have returned in the meantime.”The HuJI members who are engaged in war or killed in foreign lands; or whom have been awarded death sentence or imprisonment – their family members are getting financial assistance from the militant organization,” Monirul Islam, also Additional Commissioner of DMP, said.It is learnt that, the fund is collected from like-minded persons and organizations. Police seized 5000 Jihadi books raiding a publication farm in the city’s Banglabazar, which is owned by organizational secretary of HuJI Khaled Saifullah alias Sogir-bin Emdad.
