Canada has reiterated its commitment to further strengthen and broaden relations, and enhance people-to-people ties between Bangladesh and Canada.
Newly-appointed Canadian High Commissioner Benoit Prefontaine said this after he presented his credentials to President Abdul Hamid at a ceremony at Bangabhaban recently.
The Canadian envoy also spoke of his desire that more Bangladeshi students will see Canada as a destination of choice, where they could gain valuable expertise to take back to help further build and develop their homeland, said the High Commission on Sunday.
Recalling the cooperation of Canada during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, the President said Canada is a tested and reliable friend of Bangladesh.
“Since establishing diplomatic relations with Bangladesh in 1972, Canada is also playing an important role in the development of Bangladesh,” he said.
