Campaign undergoing against onion price in Chattogram

A monitoring team of the Ministry of Commerce led by its Deputy Secretary Md Selim launched campaign against the alarming price hike of onion at Khatungonj in the Port City yesterday afternoon.
 Executive Magistrate of District administration Towhidul Islam, Deputy Director of National Consumers Rights Protections Directorate shahida sultana, Md. Hasanuzzaman, and the members of RAB and police forces participated the campaign.
 In the first day’s drive, one trader Khatungonj business hub Grameen Banijyalloy fined with Tk 50 thousand for selling onion with high price.
Deputy Secretary told journalists that commerce ministry is monitoring the onion price across the country. He also apprised that Myanmar brand onion is being sold at wholesale market at Tk.90 per kg whereas the import cost of this onion not more than Tk42 kg. He further said if any wholesaler sells imported onions more than Tkj.55-60 will be convicted.
He said there is no shortage of onions in the market but the unscrupulous traders inexhorbitantly increased the price which is a kind of onion terrorism.
