Election campaigns started on Monday (Dec10) as Election Commission (EC) has finished distribution of symbols among the political parties contesting in the 11th Parliamentary Elections.
Farhad Ahammad Khan, Joint Secretary of Election Commission (EC) told the media “The candidates can start election campaign after receiving the symbols.
It must end by 12am of 29 December.
Actually, the candidates are getting at least 19 days for canvassing.
The EC has issued a set of directions about the campaigns. Several of them are given below:
q The candidates cannot use digital display and color posters.
q Loud Speakers cannot be used more than seven hours (2pm to 8pm) each day.
q Not more than three loudspeakers will be allowed simultaneously in the same polling area.
q Motorcades, bike and torch processions and illumination are prohibited. q Using living animals to symbolize polling symbol is prohibited.
q Writing on walls and attaching posters are banned. A poster should be of 60x45cm.
q Use of any educational institute or religious prayer center not allowed for campaign.
q No candidate can deliver demeaning or inciting statement.
q Important persons will not get government facilities while attending the events. Only the Prime Minister will get protocol for security under special law.
q The MPs and City corporation mayors won’t get government facilities during the electoral campaigns.
q None other than the party chief can use Helicopter for communication.
However, As many as around 2,500 candidates are contesting in the national polls this time. Last date of withdrawing candidacy was Dec 9.
