Fight against Intellectual Property Right (IPR) infringement in the country can help it achieve the middle income status by 2021, experts here said on Saturday.
They came up with the observation at the launching ceremony of the campaign against intellectual property infringement organized by the Intellectual Property Association of Bangladesh (IPAB) in a city hotel.
“Our Jamdani saree is world famous, Baul songs touches our heart. So, we shall hold inter-ministerial meetings to find out scope to help the IPAB’s efforts to protect intellectual property rights of our own products like Jamdani,” said Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed inaugurating the campaign as the chief guest.
“Bangladesh is going forward. We have become self-reliant in food production in the meantime. Bangladesh has surpassed India and Pakistan in some socio-economic indexes. This progress will continue in the days ahead,” he added.
The objectives of the campaign titled ‘RRBG-Nokol Rudhbo, Chorachalan Rukhbo, Rajossho Barabo, Desh Gorbo’ is to enhance public awareness, facilitate legal enforcement and support the government for making effective formulation of regulations in order to ensure Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in the country.
The scope of the campaign is to fight IP infringements of all products especially on counterfeiting and smuggling.
An independent research will also be carried out under this campaign to identify sector-wise impact including challenges, prospects and government’s revenue losses, so it can measure how the economy is being affected by IPR violation.
