The 46th Independence and National Day 2016 was celebrated in different districts through various programmes on Saturday . Our Correspondents and agencies report:
Narsingdi Correspondent reports: The 46th Independence and National Day 2016 was celebrated here on Saturday .
The Day’s programmes began in the district heralded with a 31 gun salute early in the morning as mark of respect to the heroic struggle of the nation, Placing of floral wreaths at Shaheed Minars early in the morning.
Marking the Day National flags were hoisted atop in all the public and private buildings. Deputy Commissioner of the district Abu Hena Morshed Zaman and Police Super Amena Begum also hoisted National flags at local Moslehuddin Bhuiyan stadium and received salute from March-past by Police, Anser, School students and other organization.

A discussion meeting on Independence Day and reception the Freedom Fighters, the wounded fighters and the members of the martyrs was held at local Shilpakala Academy with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education& ICT) Jashim uddin in the chair
Deputy Commissioner Of the district Abu Hena Morshed Zaman addressed the function as Chief Guest while Police Super Amena Begum BPM addressed as special guest.
The Deputy Commissioner described the freedom fighters as the greatest son of the soil. He said father of the nation Bangabandhu first envisaged country’s independence and he shaped his dream as well through life long struggle
Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rev) and Deputy Director Local Government Division Mohammad Kamal Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Gen) Khandakar Nural Hoque,Chief Executive of Zilla Parishad Siddiqur Rahman and district Muktijuddah Commander Abdul Motaleb Pathen addressed the function.
Dupchanchia (Bogra) Correspondent adds: The 46th Independence and National Day was observed under Dupchanchia Upazila of Bogra district with a fresh vow to uphold the spirit of the Liberation War amid emphatic for translating into reality the dream of building a golden Bengal.
People from all walks of life are calling upon the nation to uphold the spirit of the War of Liberation to fulfill the dreams of the valiant freedom fighters, who embraced martyrdom for the cause of their beloved motherland.
The day’s programmes heralded with a 31-gun salute early in the morning as a mark of respects to the heroic struggle of this nation, which had suffered a protracted subjugation under foreign rules from time to time until wresting their coveted independence in 1971.
Gouripur ( Mymensingh) Correspondent reports: The Independence Day was observed in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district in a befitting manner on Saturday.
 The beginning of the Day started at zero hours of midnight with a 31-gun salute. Ali Ahmed Khan Pathhan Selvee,Ex-Upazila Chairman on behalf of Freedom Fighter Alhajj Dr. Capt. (Retd.) Mujibur Rahman Fakir MP, Former State Minister for Health & Family Welfare , Margina Akter ,UNO of Gouripur Upazila , Syed Rafiqul Islam, Mayor of Gouripur Pourashava and other officials of the upazila administration and the police department ,placed floral wreaths on the monument Bijoy-71 at Bangabandhu Chattar of the upazila town.
Bagerhat Correspondent says: With a renewed pledge to turn Bangladesh into a peaceful and non-communal country in line with the spirit of the Liberation War, the 45th Independence and National Day was celebrated in Bagerhat district town and its all the 9 upazilas on Saturday.
On the occasion people of all walks of life paid glowing tributes to the martyrs and veterans of the Great War of liberation and different socio-political and cultural organizations chalked out separate and elaborate programme to celebrate the day in a befitting manner.
The Day’s programme was heralded with 31 gun salutes early in the morning as a mark of respect to the heroes who struggled for the cause of the nation. It was followed with the hoisting of nation al flag atop all the public and private buildings and educational institutions of the district town. Floral wreaths were placed on the local Muktijoddha Shaheed Minar at Dashani squire and central Shaheed Minar in front of Bagerhat Collegiate School in commemorating of those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the intendance by Md. Jahangir Alam, DC, Bagerhat on be half of the district administration, Nizamul Haq Molla, Police Super of Bagerhat on be half of Police administration and others such as Bagerhat Press Club, Bagerhat District Bar Association, Muktijoddha Command Council.
Barisal Correspondent says: The Independence Day observed 2016 on Saturday in Barisal with exceptional programmes.
Barisal Reporters Unity, arranged day-long sixth exhibition about facts, photos, documents and books on liberation war at Bangabandhu Udyan and painting competition, tales from liberation war, reception to freedom fighters on Independence day at BRU premises on Saturday.
These exceptional programmes of tales from liberation war and exhibition drawn attentions of a huge number of spectators, specially the freedom fighters and young generation.
Barisal Sangskritik Sangothan Samanya Parishad (BSSSP), an alliance of the 26 major cultural organizations of the city, arranged the three-day programmes of discussion meetings, recitations, songs, dances, dramas and staging cultural performances at Barisal Central Shaheed Minar.
They also organised candle-light procession to pay tributes for the martyrs of mass killing on ‘black night’ of March 25, 1971.
Jhenaidah Correspondent adds:The Independence and National Day was observed in Jhenaidah with due respect on Match 26. Deputy Commissioner Mahbub Alam Talukder offered floral wreaths at 6.30 am on Saturday.
Superintendent of police Altaf Hossain, District Awami League, Government Keshab Chandra Degree College, Jhenaidah Press Club, Bangladesh Muktijoddhda Sangshad, district unit, Civil Surgeon, Upazila administration and other government and non-government organizations offered the floral wreaths at the Central Shahid Minar one after another.
BSS from Rangpur adds: The Independence and National Day- 2016 was celebrated with participation of tens of thousands of people amid huge enthusiasm and festivity here through day-long elaborate programmes on Saturday.
Observance of the Day was marked with a fresh call for working unitedly in building developed Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to make independence meaningful for everyone.
The divisional and district administrations, Rangpur City Corporation, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, Awami League (AL), its associate bodies, political parties and many other organisations observed the Day through various day-long programmes.
The observance began through heralding 31 gun salutes and placing of wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar, Swadhinota Smritistambha ‘Arjan’ and monuments of martyred freedom fighters (FFs) at the zero hours.
City Mayor and valiant FF Alhaj Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu first placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar at the zero hours.
Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hassan Ahmed, DIG Humayun Kabir and Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar and high officials placed wreaths at Swadhinota Smritistambha ‘Arjan’ at Modern Mour area in the city at the zero hours.
Leaders of AL and its associate bodies, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad, BNP, Jatiya Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Gano Forum, Ganotantry Party, Workers Party, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, Communist Party of Bangladesh and other political leaders placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar.
BSS from Rajshahi reports: The Independence and National Day-2016 was celebrated in Rajshahi city and its adjacent areas yesterday amidst much enthusiasm and festive mood.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), divisional and district administrations, political, social and cultural organizations and educational institutions including Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology and Rajshahi Medical College observed the through separate programmes. The day’s programmes began with heralding of 31 gun salutes at Police Line and placing floral wreaths at the altar of the city’s Shaheed Minars at the zero hours.
Paying rich tribute to the martyrs Fazley Hossain Bbdsha, MP and Akter Jahan, MP, placed floral wreaths at Collectorate Shaheed Minar and Commissioner of Rajshahi division Helaluddin Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin and other officials followed them.
DIGP of Rajshahi Range Iqbal Bahar, Commissioner of RMP Md Shamsuddin and SP of Rajshahi Alamgir Kabir placed wreaths at Police Line Shaheed Minar. RCC authority led by its acting Mayor Nizam-ul Azim placed floral wreaths at Bhuban Mohan Park Shaheed Minar and many other political, social and cultural organizations followed them.
BSS from Narayanganj adds: The 46th Independence and National Day 2016 was observed here today with a vow to carry forward the ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to implement his vision “Sonar Bangla”.
Organised by Narayanganj district administration the day’s programme was heralded with the booming of 31-gun salute at one minute past 12 midnight last night at Narayanganj police line.
National flag was hoisted atop all public and private buildings and party flag was hoisted atop political party offices. Roads in the city were decorated with blinking lights and a good number of closed circuit cameras were installed around Chashara Victory monument for security reason.
AKM Salim Osman, MP, AKM Shamim Osman, MP, Advocate Hosne Ara Bablee MP, administrator of Narayanganj district council Abdul Hai, deputy commissioner Anisur Rahman Mia and police super Dr Khandakar Muhiduddin first paid tribute to the portrait of the founding Father of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the martyrs of the Liberation War 1971 by placing garland and bouquets at the victory monument at Chashara Square..
Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj: The 46th Independence adn National Day was observed on Saturday with much enthusiasm and in a befitting manner with a renewed pledge to bring all the collaborators under trial and to work united for the country’s development.
Marking the day Kishoreganj District Administration, ruling Awami League, BNP, JSD (Inu), CPB, Gonotantry Pary, BSD, Workers Party and various Socio-Cultural Organization and educational instiutions chalked out elaborate programmes.
The day’s programmes started with 31 gun-salutes at dawn. At 8.01 am students of many institutions staged a colourful march past and physical display at Syed Nazrul Islam Stadium.
A colourful rally brought out in the town leb by D.C Md. Azimuddin Biswas and Police Super Md. Anwar Hossain Khan.
A discussion on Muktijodha & Digital Bangladesh-Development held at Local Art Council Hall on Saturday noon with D.C Md. Azimuddin Biswas in the chair. Monirampur(Jessore)correspondent: The 46th Independence and National Day was celebrated in Monirampur .
To celebrate the Day including upazila administration, educational institution socio-cultural organisations, political parties, and Press Club took separate programs.
Upazila Prishad has began its programme by placing wreaths at the central Shaheed Minar. A colorful rally was also paraded along with the Upazila Sadar roads. National flag was also formally hoisted. Mutijoddha re-union, display, sports, cultural function and discussion meeting was the other program.
 Sopon Bhattacharjee MP attended as chief guest while Upazila chairman as the special guest. Upazila Nirbahi officer Kamrul Hassan presided over the function.
