Call to work together to establish women’s rights

International Women’s Day was observed on Saturday across the country in a befitting manner with the call to work together for establishing women’s rights in every sphere of society.
The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is ‘Equality for women is progress for all.’
Different socio-cultural organizations arranged various programmes including colourful rallies, discussion meetings, human chains, drama and cultural programmes to mark the day. Earlier, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occasion. Jatiya Konyashishu Advocacy Forum observed the International Women’s Day through holding different programmes including rally, discussion and cultural function.
To mare the day, the advocacy forum brought out a rally from in front of National Museum, where teachers, students, representatives of different government and non-government organizations participated.
Following the rally, a discussion was held in the seminar room of Engineers Institute with president of the forum Dr Badiul Alam Majumder in the chair. Leading women representatives of different organizations, among others, addressed the discussion.

Club on Saturday morning on the occasion of International Women’s Day highlighting the importance of the day for women workers. In Narsingdi, district administration and women affairs department organized a discussion at Shilpakala Academy. At the discussion, speakers said comprehensive efforts and changed mindset of all concerned could eradicate all sorts of violence against women to establish equal rights and dignity of the womenfolk in the society.
A three-day Mela also began today on this occasion at Sadar upazila parishad premises.
