Speakers at an international workshop in the city on Tuesday said that members of the law enforcing and intelligence agencies, civil society and similar other local and international organisations should work together to counter extremism in the society.
They expressed the opinion while speaking at an international workshop titled “Countering violent extremism and addressing youth radicalisation” at Police Staff College at Mirpur in the city.
Fatema Begum, rector of the Police Staff College, inaugurated the daylong workshop as the chief guest.
Prof Dr Sherman Young, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Macquarie University of Australia, attended the workshop as the special guest while Dr Julian Droogan, senior lecturer of the Department of Security Studies and Criminology & Editor in Chief of the Journal of Policing, Intelligence and Counter Terrorism (Routledge) of Macquarie University of Australia presented the keynote.
Md Ibrahim Fatemi, vice-rector of the Police Staff College, chaired the workshop in which some 60 assistant police supers (officers), teachers and students of criminology department of different public universities and representatives of intelligence agencies participated, says a press release.
