Bangladesh Bidi Industrial Owners’ Association demand to remove tax on filter bidi before granting the budget on june 29. The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina did not want to impose any tax on Bidi. This is a conspiracy of a foreign company (British American Tobacco) and National Board of Revenue. Before finalizing the budget on June 29, the tax has to be withdrawn, said Nader Hossain, Vice-president of the organization and Managing Director of Gafur Bidi Factory.
Bangladesh Bidi Industrial Owners Association organizes a post-budget press conference at National Press Club on Monday. At the statement addressed by President of the organization Bijoy Krishna Dey, Nader Hossain claimed it.
Nader Hossain said, with regret, I am convinced that in the last fiscal year 2017-2018, the finance minister has increased the tax by 100 percent on the bidi industry. Bidi industry owners will suffer a lot for many years for these. In the proposed budget, the price of bidi increased from 12 taka to 15 taka. But in the meeting with the Bidi Owners Association on May 20, the Finance Minister said that he will not increase the tax on the bidi. In the fiscal year 2017-2018, he had increased the budget for per one thousand bidi to Tk 420. Which indicate 25 percent increas of tariffs on bidi.
Owner representative and general Manager of Akij Bidi Factory Rezidor Kazi Anwarul Islam, Coordinator of Bangladesh Bidi Industrial Owners Association Ali Sadat Khan Majlish, organizer of Bangladesh Bighi Industrial Owners Association and Managing Director of Bhairab Independent Bidi Mustafa Kamal, Bangladesh Bidi Industrial Owners’ Association’s joint general secretary and chairman of Bhairab’s Pocha Bidi Haji Abul kalam Azad, Bangladesh Bidi Industry Owners Association member and director of Narshindi’s Jharna Bidi Shamsul Haque and Bidi Industry Owners Association’s member, director of Narshindi Anowar Bidi Ataur Rahman and others were present at the press confarance.
