The people of Char Fassion living in Dhaka formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club demanding stoppage of Tipu, Farhan and Panama Launches and operating new launches on Dhaka-Char Fassion and Dhaka-Hatia routes on Friday.
They also alleged that the owners of the launches have been continuing torture on the passengers for long.
Businessman Maksud Malita presided over the human chain while poet Kalam Foyezi, lecturer of Char Fassion College Hazrat Ali, businessman Soyeb Rahman, Director of Tilottoma Hatia Fowzia Safdar Soheli and Sheikh Borhanuddin Jasim, among others, spoke at the programme.
They said, Tipu, Farhan and Pananma Launches start their journey from Dhaka or Char Fassion with overloaded passengers every day. The owners of the launches ignore the law. The authorities concerned do not take any action against them for unknown reasons.
Maksud said, the staff of the launches misbehaves with the passengers. Sometimes they beat the passengers which are unexpected. It is high time to cancel the route permit of the launches and start new launches in the area, he said.
