Speakers at a workshop here on Monday stressed the need for standing beside the trafficked victims aimed at rehabilitating them in society to lead their lives smoothly.
“Many men particularly the youths, in the cheat of the brokers, go to abroad selling their property in the hope of changing their economical conditions within short time but they are victims to human trafficking and their sorrows know no bound”, they said.
They came up with the comments while addressing a concluding ceremony of two-day long workshop for the journalists on’ Protecting Victims of Human Trafficking’ held here.
Sinnomul Mohila Samity (SMS), a non-governmental organization, organized the workshop under the project of Protecting Victims of Human Trafficking in Bangladesh with the financial support of Relief International.
With executive director (ED) of the organization Murshedur Rahman Khan in the chair, the workshop was also addressed, among others, by project coordinator ABM Masudunnabi, general secretary of Gaibandha Press Club Abu Zafar Sabu and journalists Asaduzzaman Mamun, Uzzal Chakrabartee and Rezaul Haque Mita.
The speakers also emphasized the need for creating much awareness among the common people of the country and launching vigorous movement in the society to prevent human trafficking so that none went to abroad in the cheat of brokers.
The journalist community of the country could play a significant role in this regard through publishing, objective and constructive reports in their respective media, they added. Project coordinator ABM Masudunnabi said the project is being implemented in the district from August of 2014 and it would continue till August of 2015 aimed at rehabilitating 50 male persons who were victimized to human trafficking.
