Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan on Wednesday called upon new graduated shipping cadets to resist militancy and communalism to uphold the nation’s red-green flag. “The red-green flag of Bangladesh that was earned in exchange for blood is in your hands,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at a certificate awarding ceremony at United Maritime Academy at Purba Panthapath in the city. Shipping Secretary Syed Manzurul Islam addressed the function as the special guest. Department of Shipping Director General Commodore M Jakiur Rahman Bhuiyan also spoke on the occasion.
Twenty-two shipping cadets, including 10 nautical engineers and 12 marine engineers, who graduated from the academy were awarded certificate in the function on completion of two-year courses.
Shahjahan Khan said Bangabandhu Maritime University has been set up to develop efficient human resources in the maritime sector.
He advised the cadets that this country has been liberated the country by Bangabandhu. “We did not get liberation at the mercy of anyone,” he said.
Those who do not believe in independence are abusers of religion, he added.
