Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said BNP founder Ziaur Rahman had been involved in the conspiracy of the brutal assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“None but Zia promulgated indemnity ordinance to save the self-confessed killers of Bangabandhu and subsequently rewarded them also,” he said this on Saturday while speaking at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) at Segunbagicha in the city. The Shipping Minister urged all people to remain united to root out militancy and terrorism from the country.
The minister criticized the role of Ziaur Rahman in barring the then Awami League President Sheikh Hasina from entering her ancestral house and even offering Milad and doa there on Dhanmondi Road 32 soon after her return to Dhaka on May 17 in 1981.
Awami Muktijoddha Projanma League organized the discussion on the occasion of Sheikh Hasina’s Homecoming Day with its President Advocate Asaduzaman Durjoy in the chair. Shajahan Khan said, “The country, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is proceeding towards the highway of development as Sheikh Hasina doesn’t believe in politics of vengeance and always works for the people’s development.”
He said Sheikh Hasina after her return could gained people’s faith and made room in people’s hearts.
The minister hoped that Sheikh Hasina would be able to build a hunger and poverty-free ‘Sonar Bangla’ as envisioned by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Referring to the countrywide mass-killing under the ‘directives of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’ in the name of anti-government agitation in 2013-14, Shajahan demanded her immediate trial.
