The 47th Victory Day was celebrated in the port city as elsewhere in the district pledging to establish a non-communal and prosperous Bangladesh and reject anti-liberation forces in line with the spirit of Liberation War.
In addition to government programme, different political parties, its front organizations, socio-cultural and professional bodies arranged rallies, discussion meetings, cultural functions and milad mahfils to mark the day and paid homage to those glorious sons for their supreme sacrifices during the Liberation War.
The programmes included placing wreath at Shaheed Minar at one minute past 12, hoisting of national flag atop in all building at dawn, discussion meeting, bringing out processions, cultural functions, March pasts and reception to the Freedom Fighters.
The day’s programme was heralded by 31-gunfire from atop the court hill at 12.01 am which was followed by playing of whistles simultaneously from the rail, steamer and vessels engines.
Awami League led by city Mayor and General Secretary of the AL Chittagong City Unit A J M Nasir Uddin, Chittagong Zilla Parisad Chairman M A Salam, Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Chittagong range, Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong , Metropolitan Police Commissioner Iqbal Bahar , BNP Chittagong City unit president Dr Shahdat Hossain and hundreds of socio-cultural organizations placed wreaths at Shaheed Minar at early morning.
Chittagong Press Club and Chittagong Union of Journalist placed wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of Chittagong Press club premises.
Meanwhile, main attraction of the victory and the traditional victory rally postponed this year as the death of Muktijudder Bijoy Mela Parisad Chairman and former Mayor A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury.
Marking the day, a march past and physical display was held at M A Aziz Stadium with the participation of police, anser, VDP personnel and also from Fire Service, BNCC, Girls Guides, Scouts and children and juveniles from different educational institutions of the city.
Our Raozan Correspondent adds: The Victory Day was also celebrated at Raozan Upazila as elsewhere in the district on Saturday in a befitting manner with pledged of establishing a non-communal and prosperous Bangladesh and reject anti-liberation forces in line with the spirit of Liberation War. Ruling party and its front organizations, socio-cultural and professional bodies arranged rallies, discussion meetings, cultural functions and milad mahfils to mark the day and paid homage to those glorious sons for their supreme sacrifices during the Liberation War.
The programmes of victory day begins from 01 hours on Friday paying homage to the freedom fighters through placing wreaths at Raozan central Shaheed Minar by local Lawmaker ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury , followed by upazila administration, police admin, Pourasava authority UP chairmen, members etc. Students, teachers of all colleges, schools pay tributes to the liberation heros placing wreaths at the ardent of shahid minar. In the morning, a daylong programme highlighting the day was inaugurated at Raozan college ground by the chief guest thorugh releasing ballons and pigeons .
The chief guest on the occasion ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhuy MP took salutes of the marchpast presented by the Scouts and Girls guide. Upazila chairman Ehsanul Haider chowdhury Babul, UNO Md. Shamim Hossain Reza and Officer- In-Charge of Raozan Thana Md. Keafayetullah , panel mayors, councilors, UP , chairman, members and local elites among others were present in the college ground.
PULAA pays tributes to martyred FFs : Members of the Premier University Law Alumni Association (PULAA), Chittagong paid rich tributes to the departed soil of the liberation heroes by placing wreaths at the Alter of the central Shahid Minar in city at early morning on Saturday on the great Victory Day of Bangladesh . The members of PULAA assembled at the Hazari lane campus
of PU at early morning and went to the Shaheed Minar premises in a procession led by PULAA President Shoibuddin Khan to place wreath and paying tributes to the valiant sons of the soil. Metionable that cultural programs so arranged earlier on this auspicious day was instantly postponed due to sudden demise of the founder of the Premier University ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury.

Later locally popular pita festival was arranged at Hazari lane campus through installing pita booths by the families of the PULA members.
PULAA members were entertained with homemade seasonal pitas by the hosts at utsab venue, sources said. FF PULAA members paid rich tributes to Martyred FFs by placing wreaths at the alter of central Shahid Minar in Chittagong on Saturday morning.
